The Main Square Festival is a music festival that takes place in the citadel of Arras during the first weekend of July. The festival is characterized by an international program and a rivalry with the festival of the Eurockéennes of Belfort which takes place during the same period.
In 2004, the city of Arras aims to boost the region by creating a major cultural event. The first edition of the festival took place in July 2004 at the instigation of France Leduc Productions. The English group Placebo is the first headliner of the festival and occurs in front of 10 000 people, with in the first part the regional group Gomm. In 2006, the young festival welcomed Depeche Mode and Muse, whose two-day event brought together nearly 45,000 people1. The following years are marked by the rise of the festival, becoming a major musical event in France, thanks to the collaboration between France Leduc Productions and Live Nation.
