Rock in the Park is an annual music festival held in May and June in the Volkspark dozen pond in Nuremberg and a parallel event to Rock am Ring.
Since 1993 a Rockfestival in the South takes place as a parallel event to Rock am Ring in the west. The first location was in 1993 under the name Rock in Vienna in Vienna. In 1994 the festival took place as a rock in Riem at the old airport in Munich Riem. Since the first edition in Munich the companies ARGO Konzerte GmbH and Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur GmbH & Co.KG. In 1995 he moved as a rock in the park to the Olympiastadion in Munich and the Olympic Park, where he also took place in 1996.
Since 2007 the Centerstage was on the Zeppelinfeld.
In 2005 the festival visited 45,000 visitors, in 2006 49,000. In 2007 the festival was first sold out in advance, 60,000 visitors were counted. At the same time, the qualifying match for the 2008 European Championship between Germany and San Marino took place on Saturday of the festival at the Franken Stadium. Rock was already sold out in 2008 and 70,000 rock fans visited the festival.
At Rock in the Park 2010 were about 60,500 spectators. However, although the festival had roughly the same number of visitors as in 2007, it was not sold out in 2010. One reason for this is the fact that the auditorium of the "Alterastage" was slightly enlarged, which meant that more tickets could be sold than in previous years. On the occasion of the anniversary, the festival took place over four days in 2010
In 2012 rock was sold out in the park for the first time since 2008. Already three months before the festival, all three-day tickets were completely sold out.
